Peace Tree Network Registered Trust (PTN) was founded in 2000 with a clear mandate: to foster solidarity and promote peace across Eastern Africa, the Great Lakes, and the Horn of Africa. The organisation emerged from sustained consultations among regional peace actors, in collaboration with CIDSE–SAPNA. These talks led to a landmark workshop in Nairobi titled “The Challenges of Partnership Toward an Alliance for Peacebuilding.”
From this collaborative beginning, an early platform known as Peace Gate was created. As the vision and network expanded, it evolved into what is now Peace Tree Network, an organisation rooted in collaboration, dialogue, and community-driven peacebuilding.
The Symbolism of the Tree
Our identity is deeply rooted in African tradition. The name Peace Tree Network draws its inspiration from traditional African societies, where communities gathered under sacred trees to share stories, deliberate, resolve conflicts, and seek unity. The tree in our logo reflects this profound heritage, representing cultural rootedness, growth, and the life-giving power of community.
The circle encompassing the tree speaks to unity and wholeness, symbolising our collective pursuit of a peaceful coexistence among peoples and nations. The base of the tree reflects PTN’s grounding role as a foundation and convening force, where diverse voices meet to forge lasting peace.
Our Network for Collective Action
Just as a tree thrives through the interdependence of its roots, trunk, branches, and leaves, PTN brings together a vibrant community of local organisations, civil society actors, and strategic partners under a shared mission. Its structure, roots, trunk, branches, and leaves symbolise the diverse community of members and partners, each playing a vital role in strengthening the whole.
For over two decades, PTN has embodied this symbolism: a network of people coming together under one “peace tree” to advance conflict resolution, human rights advocacy, good governance, and community development.
PTN continues to grow as a Pan-African emblem of peace, collaboration, and transformation. Guided by our mission, we remain committed to enhancing capacities for peace, rooted in tradition, and reaching toward a just and inclusive future.

Peace Tree Network envisions a peaceful co-existence amongst people and states of the region.
